Formula E in Monaco kicks off the “ABT Motorsport Weeks”

Rascasse, Sainte Dévote, Casino or the infamous tunnel under the Fairmont Hotel: the street circuit in Monaco is one of the most famous racetracks in the world. On Saturday (6 May), ABT CUPRA will compete in the ninth round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on the streets of the Principality. Robin Frijns and Nico Müller want to take the momentum from their sensational performance at the home race in Berlin into the second half of the world championship season.

In front of around 34,000 fans and numerous guests who attended the world premiere of the all-electric CUPRA Tavascan, the newly formed ABT CUPRA team put several exclamation marks on its home race: First Frijns and Müller locked out the front row of the grid in Sunday’s rainy qualifying session, then Müller scored the first points of the season in the race – an important stage success in the team’s comeback year, which is to be followed by the next steps.

Four races in four different motorsport categories within four weeks: The Monaco E-Prix is the start of an action-packed month for ABT. The team will contest the Formula E race, the Extreme E Hydro E-Prix in Scotland, the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and finally the DTM season opener in Oschersleben on consecutive weekends – no other motorsport team has such a diverse program.

3.337 kilometers long, the circuit in Monaco has been identical to that of Formula 1 since 2021. The race on Saturday starts at 3 p.m. and runs over 29 laps. A list of all broadcasters is available at fiaformulae.com.

Nico Müller: “A highlight for motorsport enthusiasts”
Nico Müller has good, if somewhat aged, memories of Monaco: He won a Formula Renault race at the circuit back in 2013. “Monaco is an absolute highlight for any motorsport enthusiast,” says Müller, who last competed in the Principality in 2021 with Formula E. “Overtaking is fraught with risk on the narrow roads, so qualifying will be of great importance. We will do everything for the best possible starting position.”

Robin Frijns: “Different from anything you’ve ever seen”
“Monaco is different from everything you know in motorsport,” says Robin Frijns, who took the second pole position of his Formula E career in Berlin. “The location is special, we have no practice on Friday for the first time this year and Monaco doesn’t forgive the slightest mistake.” Frijns took one of his 13 Formula E podiums in Monaco in 2021. “A trophy may not be within reach yet, but we want to take the positive momentum and spirit from Berlin and use it to start an upward trend.”

Thomas Biermaier: “Points were just a stage win”
“The success in qualifying and the first points in Berlin were good for the whole team and also for our two drivers – they showed impressively what they are capable of,” says ABT CEO and Team Principal Thomas Biermaier. “But still, it was just a small stage win, nothing more. Our next goal must be to be able to race for the points in all conditions and under our own steam. To achieve this, we must continue to work hard together with our partners.”
