What do Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara, and Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT Sportsline have in common? Both men are car and motor sport enthusiasts and both were born into families that have always had a predilection for fast and beautiful cars. The Abt family has had this liking for almost 100 years now, and for the Lords of March it all started in the 1920s. In England, one has been into high-class motor sports since the early days of automobiles. Frederick Gordon-Lennox, for example, Charles Gordon-Lennox’ grandfather, was a successful racer. He first organised the Goodwood Festival of Speed on his estate in 1936. This soon became a traditional event in a country rich in traditions and he an icon for car fans, who have since descended upon Chichester from all over the world.
A central part of the event is a mountain section near Goodwood House where you can marvel at racing cars and sports cars, fast motorbikes, Formula-1 cars and other automotive gems from almost any era. And ABT Sportsline is part of it, too: the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group here presented the 620 HP ABT R8 GTR, an ABT T5 and an ABT QS5. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, ABT showed all the passion and competence that have always characterised this family-owned company from Bavaria.
