On 13 September the inaugural race of the new FIA Formula E will be held in Beijing. With its drivers Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt, ABT Sportsline will be the only German team to be pitted against the international competition – in the middle of the city, in fully electric formula cars.
20 drivers from ten nations will be on the grid next Saturday. The race track in Beijing is a 3.453-kilometre temporary city street circuit that loops around the Olympic stadium and the Olympic swimming hall. The cars reach a top speed of a little more than 180 km/h running at full power about 75 per cent of the time.
Unique in Formula E: The fans can give their favourite drivers an online boost. The three drivers with the largest numbers of votes will receive an additional 30 hp of power for five seconds during the race – this can amount to a crucial advantage in overtaking manoeuvres on the narrow circuit in Beijing.
