When ABT Sportsline presented the XGT together with Scherer Sport in November 2023, it quickly became clear that this vehicle was much more than just a car. It is a statement, a bridge between tradition and technical avant-garde, and the absolute embodiment of the company’s philosophy “From the racetrack to the road”. What began two years ago as a crazy idea and visionary project has developed into a real milestone in the brand’s recent history.
The ABT XGT is based on the Audi R8 LMS GT2, which was originally designed for international racing. In a complex development process, the engineers and designers in Kempten succeeded in getting the uncompromising racing car homologated for road use without losing its purist character. The result is a car that offers pure adrenaline and exclusivity: a V10 FSI mid-engine with a displacement of 5,204 cc, 470 kW (640 hp), consistent lightweight construction and a driving experience that brings every detail of motorsport to public roads. Around 40 individual approvals had to be completed during the approval process. Particularly painful: the mandatory crash test.
The fascination of the 310 km/h ABT XGT, which is available from €599,200, goes far beyond technical specifications. Each vehicle is individually manufactured, and each body bears the signature of its owner. Over the past two years, this has resulted in a colourful variety of extraordinary paint finishes and designs – from classic racing red to motorsport looks including sponsors, to bold special colours that reflect the personality of their drivers. The exclusivity and precision craftsmanship with which each model is created make the ABT XGT a rolling work of high-tech art.
“We are proud of what our team has created here,” says Daniel Abt, CCO at ABT and one of the first test drivers of the XGT. “The positive response from our customers shows that the ABT XGT strikes a chord with those who are looking for performance, craftsmanship and emotion in equal measure. For me, this car perfectly embodies what ABT stands for: passion, precision and the courage to redefine boundaries. A huge compliment to our engineers and designers who have put so much heart and soul into this project.”
The fact that the ABT XGT is now attracting attention at events, racetracks and on roads worldwide is also a source of delight for those responsible in Kempten. Sales and service have been in the hands of Scherer Sport, a long-standing partner of ABT Sportsline both on and off the racetrack, since day one. Each delivery is preceded by an intensive manufacturing process in which customers are closely involved: from personal design briefings to the final handover. Two years after its premiere, the ABT XGT has long been more than just a vehicle: it is a symbol of the innovative strength and spirit of a family business that not only lives and breathes motorsport, but also reinterprets it.
