The Formentor SUV coupé has recently become the first model of the Spanish brand CUPRA on the market to feature a completely unique body. However, sporty and ambitious drivers are not only attracted by the dynamic lines.
But the VZ5, which is limited to 7,000 vehicles, shows that even sports cars have a real opponent here. After all, the charismatic 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine of the most powerful Formentor produces an impressive 390 HP (287 kW) and 480 Nm. And that is even slightly more than a current Porsche Carrera, although there is a stalemate when it comes to acceleration. Both need 4.2 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. But anyone who wants to pass the legendary sports car with confidence can now have this wish fulfilled. Thanks to ABT Power S, the CUPRA’s performance increases to a remarkable 450 HP (331 kW), with maximum torque rising to 530 Nm.
A look at the test protocols documents what the increase in performance means in practice: from a standstill, 100 km/h was reached in an impressive 3.9 seconds. This corresponds to an improvement of three tenths. Those who do not want the propulsion to end at the usual 250 km/h can also turn to the Bavarian tuning experts with confidence on this point. In addition to the ABT Power S, the top speed can be increased to 270 km/h.
Want an even stronger look in addition to the more powerful heart? We offer several attractive wheel variants for the CUPRA Formentor VZ5. The 20-inch SPORT GR design is available in both matt black or glossy black. The special eye-catcher here is the diamond polished surface or lip. But an impressive 21 inches are also possible – in the form of the SPORT HR. The multi-spoke design is completely painted glossy black and radiates bold sportiness.
But even the non-limited version of the Formentor has something to offer: The top-of-the-range model, VZ 2.0 TSI, can deliver 310 HP (228 kW) and 400 Nm. In view of the close collaboration with the Spanish brand, it goes without saying that our engineers also optimise the new Formentor with the ABT Engine Control (AEC) to 370 HP (272 kW) and 450 Nm.
The increase of 60 HP (44 kW) and 50 Nm is also reflected in the acceleration, so that 0-100 km/h is achieved in just 4.6 seconds instead of 4.9 seconds. This is within striking distance of a Porsche Boxster GTS with manual transmission.
For those who want to enhance the sprint even more emotionally and acoustically, an additional ABT exhaust system is available to order. Its beguiling 4-pipe end-pipes in stylish matt black feature an impressive 102 mm diameter.
The standard active suspension was adapted in conjunction with our Extreme E racing driver Mattias Ekström, who also drove in the DTM for us in the past. ABT suspension springs are also available as an option for the active suspension, which facilitates a total lowering of up to 35 mm.
An additional eyecatcher are the attractive alloy wheels. For example the the 20-inch ABT Sport GR wheel. This matt black design impresses with its strongly concave rim well and a completely diamond-machined surface. The wheel is also optionally available in glossy black with a diamond-machined rim flange. Additional options include the 19-inch models ABT DR and ER-C as well as the 20-inch FR wheel.
