Although the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars had no chance of competing at the front in Austria with the latest Balance of Performance, Mirko Bortolotti finished ninth on Sunday, securing the team’s first top ten result since the race at Zandvoort in June. In Sunday’s qualifying, the Vienna-based Italian was also the best Lamborghini driver for the first time this year. On Saturday, Bortolotti scored one point with 15th place.
“I think it was a good weekend for us,” said Bortolotti. “The team did a good job because I haven’t been as happy with my car all year as I was here. We’ve made good progress, especially in terms of drivability and setup. Unfortunately, we’re still lacking straight line speed. The pit stops were also really good this weekend. I see a positive trend and hope to end the season with a strong result at Hockenheim.”
”We’ve made a huge step forward with the pit stops, the guys were really strong,” said Nicki Thiim, who scored a point with 15th place on Sunday after finishing 20th on Saturday. “I said before the weekend that the Red Bull Ring isn’t necessarily my track – nor is it for our car. It took me a long time to find a good balance, but in the second race it was really good. I’m already looking forward to an exciting finale at Hockenheim and a track that suits me and the car better.”
“Mirko was really happy with the car here and put in a strong performance throughout the weekend, which is positive,” said ABT Motorsport Director Martin Tomczyk. “I’m also very happy with our pit stop performance. We weren’t good in that area in the last few races. Some changes in the pit stop crew helped us improve in this area and return to the performance we are known for. That was important and gives us additional motivation for the season finale at the Hockenheimring.”
