“A car can be efficient, functional and sensible. For many, that is enough. Not for us,” says Daniel Abt, CMO of the ABT Group. “For us, a car means freedom, goosebumps and a part of your own identity. That is what we built the ABT RS5-R for.”
Under the bonnet sits a plug-in hybrid drive combining a 2.9-litre V6 biturbo and an electric motor. The ABT Power S performance upgrade raises system output from 470 kW (639 PS) to around 529 kW (720 PS) and maximum torque from 825 to 905 Nm. The V6 biturbo rises from 375 kW (510 PS) to around 435 kW (591 PS) and from 600 to 680 Nm. The driver feels the extra 81 PS and 80 Nm every time they press the accelerator. Top speed remains at series level, and the upgrade is compatible with the myABT app. All performance figures apply to operation with 98 RON fuel.
A distinctive appearance defines the RS5-R. The comprehensive aerodynamic package is available in either gloss visible carbon or matt Carbon Camouflage. It includes a front spoiler with front blades, louvres in the front wheel arches, mirror caps and side skirts. At the rear sits an all-new rear apron with diffuser, while a rear wing with aero blades provides the finishing touch on the Avant.
Lower, firmer, sharper. Suspension springs bring the body closer to the road, while sport anti-roll bars reduce body roll and sharpen turn-in. The forged 22-inch ABT EVO Performance wheels in gloss black with 315/25 R22 tyres fill the wheel arches almost completely.
Inside, the RS5-R reminds its driver every time they get in that it is one of 130. The badge and door sill trims carry the lettering “1 of 130”. The centre console, dashboard and seat frames are trimmed with Dinamica panels, a grippy microfibre material. The shift paddles come in the carbon finish chosen for the exterior.
The RS5-R package costs 62,000 euros for the Sedan in gloss visible carbon and 65,000 euros in matt Carbon Camouflage, and 65,000 and 68,000 euros respectively for the Avant. Installation costs an additional 7.160 euros (Sedan) or 7,600 euros (Avant), plus TÜV approval. All prices include 19 per cent German VAT and exclude the base vehicle.
For the second quarter of 2027, ABT is planning further retrofit options for the Audi RS 5, including a performance upgrade to 588 kW (800 PS) and a titanium exhaust system developed by Akrapovič.
“For us, this car is the most important model of the coming months,” says Daniel Abt. “With 130 units, it will remain rare, and with the 800 PS kit and the Akrapovič exhaust system, it will continue to grow with its owners.”
