ABT warranty services for ABT engine tuning

When it comes to engine tuning with ABT Power (orders placed from 2024), we are clearly ahead of the competition with regard to customer protection thanks to the best warranty service on the market. The following ABT warranty conditions apply! Different warranty conditions may apply to engine tuning with ABT Power R.

*ABT WARRANTY CONDITIONS
Valid from 01/01/2024

If an order is placed from 01/01/2024, ABT Sportsline GmbH offers a warranty for all performance upgrades on Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Cupra and Skoda passenger cars for a maximum of 5 years after initial registration or up to a total mileage of 120,000 kilometres, whichever comes first, under the following conditions:  For commercial vehicles from these brands (in particular VW buses), the warranty conditions are limited to the first 24 months after initial registration or up to 100,000 kilometres, whichever comes first.

This warranty is valid in the following countries:

Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Spain, Portugal, UK, Croatia and Romania

Warranty conditions up to 24 months from first registration:

ABT Sportsline GmbH assumes the factory warranty of the vehicle manufacturer, limited by the following ABT warranty conditions up to 2 years after initial registration of the vehicle, or up to a total mileage of 100,000 km, whichever occurs first. Different warranty conditions may apply to engine tuning with ABT Power R.

  1. ABT Sportsline GmbH assumes the new vehicle warranty originally granted by the vehicle manufacturer for its customers who have received an increase in engine power and/or top speed, subject to the following restrictions.
  2. The warranty ends 2 years after initial registration of the vehicle or upon arrival at 100,000 km, whichever occurs first and regardless of when the control unit modification was made. It applies to vehicles of the AUDI, VOLKSWAGEN, SEAT, CUPRA or SKODA brands and does not include the manufacturer's mobility guarantee or the assumption of any towing costs and costs for a replacement vehicle/hire car. The warranty and the modification cannot be transferred to another vehicle. The right of modification or reduction is limited to the deliveries and services provided by ABT Sportsline GmbH.
  3. The performance upgrade must have been implemented directly at ABT Sportsline GmbH or by an authorised partner of ABT Sportsline GmbH.
  4. There is no claim for reimbursement of costs for return of the vehicle or carried trailer, accommodation, travel expenses (such as home journey), loss of earnings and other indirect costs.
  5. If the vehicle manufacturer prescribes an update for the engine control unit, ABT Sportsline GmbH will not cover the costs incurred in this context (e.g. removal/installation of the control unit, shipping costs, hire car, etc.).
  6. Wear parts (including, for example, the complete brake system, clutches, tyres, fluids (e.g. oils, brake fluid, etc.) are generally excluded from the warranty.
  7. In the event of a claim, ABT Sportsline Technical Service must be informed immediately (telephone 0831-57140-905 and fax -860, email: service.technik@abt-sportsline.de). Compulsory commissioning of repair work or the preparation of a fee-based quote requires the prior written approval of ABT Sportsline GmbH (form available in the service book or from technical support). An order signed by the customer does not replace this approval. Billing must be carried out in accordance with the warranty processing guidelines provided by ABT Sportsline GmbH Technical Customer Service.
  8. ABT Sportsline GmbH reserves the right to determine the damage or repair in-house. In this case, the vehicle must be delivered to ABT Sportsline at the expense and risk of the customer. In the event of a repair carried out by a third party with the consent of ABT Sportsline GmbH, the removed vehicle parts shall be returned to ABT Sportsline GmbH free of charge for inspection, unless ABT Sportsline GmbH expressly waives their return.
  9. The prerequisite for the provision of any warranty service is the proper use of the vehicle outside motor sports activities and regular maintenance in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's specifications and the specifications of ABT Sportsline GmbH.
  10. Please note the ABT fuel sticker in your fuel filler flap. The minimum octane requirement for the petrol fuel is RON 98 or RON 102. The minimum standards for the approved fuels are analogous to DIN EN 228 (petrol) and DIN EN 590 (diesel). Ensure that the proportion of biofuel is as low as possible (e.g. E5 for petrol and B7 for diesel).
  11. In the event of additional modifications to the vehicle that have not been approved by ABT Sportsline GmbH and that have a direct or indirect influence on the services provided by us, any warranty claim against ABT Sportsline GmbH shall lapse.
  12. Please also note our General Terms and Conditions and any additional information in the service booklet enclosed with the control unit modification or the order confirmation.

 

For warranty conditions after the 24th month up to the 60th month, the following also applies:

For the period after the 24th month from initial registration up to a maximum of 60 months after initial registration of the passenger car or until a total of 120,000 km is reached, whichever occurs first, the warranty cover per claim is limited to a maximum total amount of €15,000 gross, with the exception of all commercial vehicles, in particular VW buses. In addition, the following warranty conditions apply in the following countries:

Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Spain, Portugal, UK, Croatia and Romania

The customer receives a warranty assurance from ABT Sportsline GmbH, the content of which is set out in the following warranty conditions. This warranty does not affect the purchaser's statutory claims for material defects against the warranty provider, i.e. they are neither extended nor restricted:

 

Warranty coverage

The warranty covers the assemblies and parts listed below. A warranty claim exists if one of the specified parts loses its function within the warranty period directly and not as a result of a fault in parts not covered by the warranty, and a repair becomes necessary as a result.

Assemblies covered by the warranty

Engine: Cylinder block, crankcase, cylinder head, cylinder head gasket, housing of rotary piston engines, all internal parts connected to the oil circuit, oil filter housing and flywheel/drive pulley with ring gear; toothed belt/chain with tensioning pulley, oil cooler, oil pan, oil pressure switch, oil level sensor.filter housing and flywheel/drive pulley with sprocket; toothed belt/chain with tensioning pulley, oil cooler, oil pan, oil pressure switch, oil level sensor.

If the replacement intervals specified for timing belts/timing chains with tensioning pulleys are not observed, the warranty provider is released from liability in the event of a claim if there is a causal connection;

Manual and automatic transmission: Transmission housing and all internal parts including torque converter and control unit of the automatic transmission;

Axle/transfer case: Transmission housing including all internal parts for front-wheel, all-wheel and rear-wheel drive;

Power transmission shafts: Cardan shaft, axle drive shafts and drive joints; from the traction control system: Speed sensors, electronic control unit, hydraulic unit, pressure accumulator and charging pump, electronic differential lock (EDS) with the parts: Speed sensors, electronic control unit, hydraulic unit and EDS valve block;

Steering: The mechanical or hydraulic steering gear with all internal parts, hydraulic pump with all internal parts, control units for power steering, electronic steering components, electric power steering motor;

Brakes: Master brake cylinder, brake booster and hydropneumatics, brake force regulator, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with the following parts: electronic control unit, hydraulic unit and speed sensor, wheel brake cylinder for drum brake, brake force limiter, vacuum pump;

Fuel system: Fuel pump, injection pump, turbocharger, electronic components of the injection system, engine control unit, intercooler, compressor (engine charging);

Electrical system: Alternator with regulator, electronic ignition system with ignition cables, starter motor, electrical cables of the electronic injection and ignition system, on-board computer, excluding damage caused by corrosion and oxidation;

Convenience electrics: Front and rear windscreen wiper motor, headlight wiper motor, heater fan motor, auxiliary fan motor, horn, damage to control units (excluding any connection with navigation and multimedia equipment (excluding any connection with navigation and multimedia equipment, interface, lighting system, radar system and auxiliary heater), power window motor, sunroof motor, rear window heating element - except for convertible - and folding soft top, (all parts are excluded from breakage); central locking system with the following parts: switches, solenoid coils, locking motors, door locks, control units (excluding wiring harnesses and cables), immobiliser control unit;

Air conditioning: Compressor, condenser, fan, evaporator;

Cooling system: Water pump, water cooler, thermostat, heater cooler, fan clutch, radiator for automatic transmission, visco/thermal fan and thermal switch;

Security system: Control system for airbag and belt tensioner (control unit and adjusting ring), sensor mat, sensors;

Exhaust system: Lambda sensor, NOX sensor;

 

The following are not covered:

All parts that are not listed opposite and for which no warranty has been requested. Parts that are not authorised by the vehicle manufacturer or ABT Sportsline GmbH or that are regularly checked or replaced as part of maintenance or service work, operating and auxiliary materials such as fuels, chemicals, filter inserts, coolants and antifreeze, hydraulic fluid, oils, greases and other lubricants. Costs for testing, measuring and adjustment work, insofar as they are not incurred in connection with damage for which compensation is payable. Also excluded are towing costs and towing fees, hire cars and the costs of air freight, corrosion and rust-through damage, damage caused by animal bites, water leaks or leaks in the bodywork.

Inspection and maintenance
Inspection, care and maintenance

In order to maintain the warranty, it is necessary that the maintenance work on your vehicle is carried out punctually in accordance with the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer and ABT Sportsline GmbH. The maintenance work must be carried out at an authorised workshop recognised by the vehicle manufacturer and ABT Sportsline GmbH. The original invoices must be presented in the event of a claim.

The prescribed inspection and maintenance must be carried out exactly at the mileage specified by the vehicle manufacturer and ABT Sportsline GmbH and may not be delayed by more than 1,000 km or more than 4 weeks.

 

Warranty exclusions:

Warranty will not be provided if

• the maintenance work prescribed or recommended by the vehicle manufacturer or ABT Sportsline GmbH was not carried out exactly, either by ABT Sportsline GmbH or in an authorised workshop recognised by the vehicle manufacturer and ABT Sportsline GmbH, or other repairs by another workshop were faulty. The original invoices must be presented in the event of a claim.

• the vehicle manufacturer's instructions in the operating instructions and the specifications of ABT Sportsline GmbH for operating the vehicle have not been observed, or the vehicle has been subjected to higher axle or trailer loads than those specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

• the damage is due to the effects of force (stone chips), improper, wilful or malicious handling, inadequate care, or the vehicle was used for events of a racing nature.

• damage occurs to engines and assemblies on the vehicle as a result of use of gas, biodiesel, hybrid or hydrogen, unless the special drive of the vehicle was expressly noted when registering the warranty.

• the damage is due to robbery, embezzlement, theft, accident, natural hazards (hail, storm, etc.) or driving with insufficient oil, incorrect oil or incorrect fuel, or is the result of overheating or fire.

• the vehicle is only used temporarily for commercial passenger transport or the vehicle is hired out to different groups of people.

• the damage relates to warranty-related parts which the manufacturer repairs free of charge independently of this warranty, or which can be repaired by the manufacturer's warranty service.

• the consequential damage can be traced back to parts that are not covered by the warranty, or there is damage to a component not covered by the warranty that was caused by damage to a component covered by the warranty.

• adjustments and resets/coding are necessary without a damaging part.

• it is repaired without prior notification of damage to ABT Sportsline GmbH.

• damage is not reported within 3 days of its occurrence.

• the odometer has been tampered with or otherwise interfered with and a defect or replacement has not been reported immediately.

• the vehicle has been technically modified by a third party, e.g. by tuning, suspension modification or third-party accessories that are not authorised by the vehicle manufacturer and ABT Sportsline GmbH.

 

Warranty repair processing

1. If the parts specified in Section 3 (Assemblies covered by warranty) become inoperative, the customer shall be entitled to repair of the damage covered by the warranty in a workshop designated by ABT Sportsline GmbH. The customer must report any damage covered by the warranty within 3 days of discovering it by submitting a cost estimate:

a) to ABT Sportsline GmbH if the warranty claim occurred within a radius of 100 km from the ABT Sportsline GmbH location. The vehicle must be made available for repair.

b) The instructions of ABT Sportsline GmbH must be followed without fail.

Please note that you are not authorised to place a repair order in the name of ABT Sportsline GmbH. There is no entitlement to payment in the event of non-compliance. In all cases, ABT Sportsline GmbH shall have the right to have the case of damage or its causes investigated. In the event of differences of opinion regarding the eligibility for warranty or the amount of the damage, ABT Sportsline GmbH shall be entitled to commission an independent expert before carrying out the repair. If the expert confirms your claim, ABT Sportsline GmbH will bear the costs of the expert. If the assessment is in favour of ABT Sportsline GmbH, the customer shall bear the costs.

There shall be no warranty claim for repairs carried out without prior notification of damage or without the written consent of ABT Sportsline GmbH to the repair order or carried out contrary to the submitted cost estimate. If repairs are not carried out directly at ABT Sportsline GmbH, a repair invoice specified by the workshop, including a material certificate issued in the customer's name, must be submitted within 4 weeks of the repair order being placed.
 

2. In the event of damage occurring outside the above-mentioned countries, the customer shall be obliged to notify ABT Sportsline GmbH of the damage in writing before commencing the repair and to agree with ABT Sportsline GmbH on the scope of the repair and the authorised workshop carrying out the repair.

 

Reimbursement of costs in the event of a warranty claim

Costs will only be reimbursed after a repair has been carried out. The basis for settlement is the invoice amount eligible for warranty, up to a maximum of the current value of the vehicle at the time of the damage. In principle, the maximum reimbursement amount is limited to EUR 15,000 (gross) per claim.

a) Labour costs are reimbursed at 100% according to the working rates of the vehicle manufacturer.

b) The total claim during the term of the warranty arising from several warranty cases is limited to the replacement value of the vehicle less the residual value.

 

Statute of limitations

All claims arising from a warranty claim to be compensated shall become time-barred 12 months after receipt of the damage report.
